“The Shining” is a psychological horror novel written by Stephen King, first published in 1977. The story revolves around the Torrance family: Jack, Wendy, and their young son Danny. Jack, a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic, accepts a job as the off-season caretaker of the Overlook Hotel, a remote and isolated resort in the Colorado Rockies. The hotel has a dark history, and as the winter sets in and the family becomes increasingly cut off from the outside world, its malevolent influence begins to affect them.
Danny possesses psychic abilities referred to as “the shining,” which allows him to see the hotel’s horrific past and communicate with the spirits haunting its halls. As the supernatural forces within the hotel grow stronger, Jack’s sanity begins to unravel, and he becomes increasingly violent and dangerous. Meanwhile, Wendy and Danny must confront the terrifying entities that lurk within the hotel to survive.
“The Shining” is renowned for its masterful portrayal of psychological horror, as well as its exploration of themes such as addiction, family dynamics, and the nature of evil.
